Manchester City have several needs that must addressed with their squad in the January transfer window. Midfield is an obvious area that must be reinforced for the world champions. A right-back or a left-back would also be a handy area to address next month. But finding support for Erling Haaland appears to be another area of concern for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Haaland has fought a lone hand up front for Manchester City this season. With the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid last summer it left Pep Guardiola light of options up front. The fractured leg suffered by Oscar Bobb on the eve of the season further exacerbated this issue. It is clear that Manchester City needs another striker in their squad. Now a new report suggests they may have found the right player for that role.
Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are contemplating a loan move for PSG striker Randal Kolo next month. Furthermore, Rust and Jones report that Manchester City have sounded out and has made informal contacts with Muani’s intermediaries to gain an understanding of his current situation at PSG. They also add that Muani isn’t in PSG manager Luis Enrique’s plans currently. Lastly, it is also reported by Jones and Rust that Brighton striker Evan Ferguson could also be a striker City target next month.
Muani has struggled to make an impact for PSG this season. He has made 14 appearances in all competitions and has scored 2 goals. The vast majority of his appearances have come as a substitute for PSG this season.
As Jones and Rust report Muani appears surplus to requirements at PSG. This may present Manchester City with an opportunity to pounce next month. Pep Guardiola’s side lacks a quality striker to provide cover for Erling Haaland. Muani would provide that. The French international has proven that he can play at the top level and has been a consistent performer on occasions for his country. His record of 8 goals in 27 appearances for France is nothing to sneeze at.
But a loan move for Muani does make sense from a Manchester City point of view. It would be a low-risk move and could give them a quality player who has a point to prove. If Muani could come in and perform at City, it could revive his career, which has stagnated in recent seasons. If it doesn’t pan out, he can return to PSG, but he would’ve played a role in helping provide cover for Haaland. It’s a win-win move on paper anyway.
It does that Manchester City may have found a low-risk option to provide cover for Erling Haaland. Randal Kolo Muani does tick the boxes required of a player who could add something different to Manchester City’s squad. It now appears to be a story to watch for over the coming weeks to see if City do move for the French international.
