Sheffield Wednesday have solidified their position in the Championship after narrowly avoiding relegation straight back to League One last season.

Danny Rohl’s side have earned a mid-table finish in the division, and will now be eyeing potential summer transfer window business.

However, issues behind the scenes could slow down their initial preparations due to uncertainty over both Danny Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri’s future with the Owls.

It was reported by The Star earlier this week that the owner has rejected an offer to buy the club from a US-based consortium.

Dejphon Chansiri urged to sell Sheffield Wednesday

When asked what the biggest issue is at the club right now, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna claimed it’s Chansiri.

He believes that the owner must sell his stake in the club before any progress can be made in addressing the other issues behind the scenes.

“There are a lot of [problems] on and off the pitch, but ultimately right now the priority is, and has to remain, the removal of Dejphon Chansiri as owner of the football club,” McKenna told Football League World.

“Hopefully now the pressure is on Chansiri.

“I think the protests, which are growing in numbers and strength have clearly got to him, and now it’s come out that an offer was made to the club.

“Maybe we’re seeing the end of the road for Chansiri.

“That is where the issue is, where the focus is.

“I suppose we can’t now let the pressure ease off Chansiri, so that the wriggles away from it, it all dies down and come the new season he’s still in charge and all the issues at the club are still there.

“It all stems back to Chansiri, and now we’re in this situation where the pressure is really on Chansiri.

“He is feeling it, we’ve seen that, again, in his behaviours in the past few weeks, and there’s now news coming out that offers are being made to the club, and there’s a possibility that maybe others are interested.

“So, yeah, keep that up and don’t let him wriggle away, and hopefully he’s gone before the start of next season, and then we can start to address the multiple issues at the club.”

Sheffield Wednesday are currently 12th in the Championship table ahead of their final fixture against Watford on 3 May.

Chansiri issue appears to be coming to a head

There have been issues surrounding Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday for a number of years, but it is reaching a boiling point with all this speculation over a possible sale.

Supporters will be optimistic that it could lead to change, which would be a positive step forward for the club and could potentially ease concerns over Rohl’s future as manager.

The team have come a long way under the German coach, so keeping him should be the priority of any prospective new owners.

If supporters keep up this pressure on Chansiri, then he may feel that he has to sell.
