The Owls are currently continuing pre-season in Hungary and Austria, but Henrik Pedersen doesn't envisage new arrivals throughout the camp

It's been a busy and exciting transfer window thus far at Sheffield Wednesday, and plenty of Owls fans are waiting impatiently regarding who is next through the doors at Hillsborough.

Wednesday have been the busiest side in the EFL when it comes to new arrivals, and they've had to be, after their senior squad was decimated over the past year due to the mishaps of the final few months under Dejphon Chansiri and the administration which followed.

So far, eight new faces have joined Henrik Pedersen's ranks, and one modern-day club legend returned to the club in Barry Bannan, too. However, Sheffield Wednesday are far from done when it comes to business.

Currently, though, while work is always being undertaken behind the scenes, there's expected to be at least a few days' wait until the next new man arrives at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently in the midst of their European leg of pre-season.

Henrik Pedersen's side are undertaking a five-day training schedule in Budapest, Hungary, before they head over to Vienna, Austria, to play Championship side Stoke City in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Saturday.

A 29-man squad jetted off to Hungary on Sunday, but when observing the list, it was very defender-heavy, with just six attackers travelling with the group. Notably, George Brown was absent as he continues to recover from an injury, and Ike Ugbo was left out completely.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield in Hungary, per the Sheffield Star, Henrik Pedersen stated that he knows Wednesday need to sign some attacking players shortly, but he doesn't expect any new additions to join them in their training camp this week.

The Danish boss praised the work being done behind the scenes to bring in quality additions. So far, four of the nine signings have come from Championship sides, while a further two have arrived from top-flight leagues in Scotland and Belgium.

"Of course, we still need some offensive players," he said. "We still need a nine. We still need a right-sided winger. We still need more players.

"Simon [Wilson], Kevin [Beadell], the coaches, we help each other. We are working very, very hard to find some really, really good solutions. I'm really happy with the players we have got, and if we can keep this level, then it's looking very positive.

"I think maybe we have 20 players right now on the list for the positions we are searching. We are speaking with players. So right now, I don't think there will come any players into the training camp. But we are working really hard to find the next one."

Understandably, questions have been asked surrounding the potential transfer of Tommi O'Reilly, who would mark the third addition from Aston Villa this summer at Sheffield Wednesday, after Sil Swinkels and Louie Barry.

Football League World broke the news that the Owls were interested in the 22-year-old, who scored seven and assisted 11, having started every league game on loan at Crewe Alexandra last season in League Two, and the Star, among others, have reinforced that interest since.

Importantly, the Star reports that Pedersen didn't confirm or deny Sheffield Wednesday's interest in O'Reilly before he went on to state that they have 20 players they are looking at.

O'Reilly struggled in his last and, to date, only spell in League One while on loan at Shrewsbury Town in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign, which saw Salop relegated after a disappointing year.

However, after last season at Crewe, there's every expectation that the right-winger is ready to make an impact in the third tier, which he could do at Hillsborough.

Wednesday fans may have to wait a bit until anything is announced, though, as the squad focuses on their pre-season abroad. They return on Sunday and by then, there'll be some hope that a new player will meet them back at Middlewood Road.
