It’s been a slow January for Chelsea so far in terms of players coming into the club, but we’ve just had confirmation from Fabrizio Romano that a deal is about to be done.

According to the top transfer insider, the Blues have agreed a deal to sign 17 year old Sheffield Wednesday left back Yisa Alao. The Blues will pay a fee of over £500k up front, plus “heavy add ons” which presumably include bonuses for various achievements as well as a sell on clause.

Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Yisa Alao.

Romano notes in his Tweet that Chelsea beat three “top” Premier League club to the Alao signing. Ben Jacobs had previously reported that Manchester United were in the mix. Man City and Everton has also been mentioned.

Teenager Alao has started picking up first team appearances for the Owls this year, and it was a matter of time before a top side swooped in and picked him up. He’s played twice in the Championship and twice in the EFL Cup this season. He will presumably play in our Under-21 setup for the rest of this season, with a loan back to the Championship to follow at some stage.

It’s not the first team strengthening some fans were looking for, but it’s another top player to join the youth ranks who can hopefully contribute sooner rather than later.

Rosenior also took questions about Liam Delap – he denied the striker was lacking confidence after another display without a goal. We still expect the Englishman to start against Crystal Palace this weekend – and he will hope there’s more space to exploit in that game.

Moises Caicedo was the hero once again for Chelsea, scoring a crucial header to win the Blues the game and put them back into the Champions League top 8.
