Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided a fresh injury update on Luke Shaw ahead of the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford this weekend.

The Red Devils picked up a third-straight win in all competitions on Thursday night. United beat FCSB in the Europa League after goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo in the second half.

United will now prepare for Palace’s visit on Sunday. Ahead of the game, Amorim provided an update on Shaw, who has not been part of the matchday squad for the past few months.

The England international has started working on the grass after a muscular injury, and when pressed on his condition, the manager said that he will return to full training in the next session.

He said: “It will take a little bit more time. He needs to train more, spend more time with his team-mates, play some small training games, not just working alone.

“He’s going to get together with the team when we go home, and then when I feel it’s the right moment, we will start giving him some minutes in the games.”

Shaw likely to be eased back into action

The England international, described as ‘really good‘ by former manager Erik ten Hag, has missed over 300 competitive games over the past decade at United.

The left-back has suffered several injury setbacks. Amorim may want to handle him with extra caution.

Ten Hag tended to rush Shaw back into action after injuries, which undoubtedly contributed to the defender’s inability to stay unscathed for long periods.

The 29-year-old’s future at the club now hangs in the balance. He must prove his worth in the coming months, or could be offloaded in the summer.

Amorim is likely to give him an opportunity to redeem himself. The big question remains whether Shaw can get back up to full speed and stay injury-free.
