Liverpool are now lining up a perfect replacement for Andy Robertson.

The Scotsman is now coming to the end of his cycle at Liverpool.

While his potential departure carries an emotional weight, particularly given his importance during the club’s most successful recent period, it is also a broader squad evolution, one that includes the end of an era and coincides with the departure of Mo Salah as well.

Much of the clarity around Robertson’s situation stems from Liverpool’s approach in January. The club’s apparent openness to discussions with Tottenham suggested a shift in internal confidence levels.

Although a move ultimately didn’t materialise, the way the deal was handled suggested that Robertson would be on the move this summer and that Liverpool were already planning for change.

From a squad planning perspective, clubs rarely entertain mid-season exits for players they consider integral to their medium-term future.

Despite Liverpool's lack of desire, Robertson is unlikely to face a lack of interest.

His experience, consistency, and track record at the highest level make him an attractive option for a range of clubs. Links to Atlético Madrid align with his stylistic profile, while a return to Celtic would carry obvious sentimental appeal.

For Liverpool, however, the more complex challenge lies in succession planning.

Replacing Robertson is not simply about filling a positional gap, but about replicating the intensity, leadership, and tactical reliability he has provided for years. With Tsimikas yet to fully convince as a long-term solution, identifying the right successor will be a critical decision in shaping the next phase of the squad.

Liverpool can't just rely on Milos Kerkez and while there are talented players in the academy no one is ready to come in and play a back-up role to replace Robertson behind the Hungarian.

The other massive loss when it comes to Robertson is his leadership.

On the pitch, he wasn't just a quality player. He was a vocal voice on the pitch, someone who was a huge character in the dressing room and played a key role in uniting everyone on and off the pitch.

His vocal and loud voice on the pitch set a precedence. If you went to Anfield, you could regularly hear Robertson's shouts even from the stands.

Liverpool need to replace that, too, as well as his quality.

And it looks like the Reds have found the perfect replacement.

According to a recent report, David Raum is a player who has won over Liverpool scouts while following Yan Diomande this season.

He's only 27-years-old, but he is already the captain of RB Leipzig.

That gives you an indication of the type of character he is. And when you watch him live, you can also observe similarities to Robertson in the way he carries himself on the pitch.

Raum is very vocal when playing for RB Leipzig.

He is constantly directing and encouraging his teammates and his voice echoes in the stands.

On top of that he is also an excellent chance creator and someone who loves to deliver crosses into the box, and who is very good at that side of the game.

Given the fact that Liverpool already have a very young player in Kerkez as their first-choice left-back, it makes sense for them to bring in a player like Raum, who is a bit more experienced.

It especially makes sense when you look at Raum's contract situation. He has one year left on his deal at Leipzig, and that means he should be available for a decent fee.
