Real Madrid have heavily invested in young talents in recent years, and the effort has been directed at finding players at the grassroots levels.

Franco Mastantuono, on that front, was a perfect signing as he was just 17 years of age when he arrived.

Considering how even Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi made their name at that age, it appears to be the right market to capture.

One player of that category who has stood out in recent times is Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl, who is a 17-year-old attacking midfield talent.

A shocking statement

The 17-year-old midfield phenom spoke to the media in a recent interaction where he was asked about his career goals, especially given how he is one of the world football’s highest-rated under-20 talents.

The player maintained complete respect for his current employers in his reply, but surprisingly revealed to the world that Real Madrid is the club he wishes to play for in the long run.

“Bayern is a very, very big club. It’s a dream to play there. But at some point I definitely want to go to Real Madrid,” he said, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

He then called Real Madrid his ‘dream team’, saying,

“That’s my dream club. Of course, Bayern is something very special, and it’s a lot of fun at the club.”

At just 17 years of age, Karl has already carved out a name for himself as a reliable attacking midfield option in Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich and is seen as the next big thing in world football.

He has already played 13 league games for the Bavarians in this season’s Bundesliga and has three goals and two assists to show in that duration.

With the player officially making his preference known, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid act on it in the coming seasons and make an effort to sign the player.

His current contract runs until June 2028, and Los Blancos could well wait until then.

The one factor working against them, however, is the sheer number of young players they already have in that department in Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham and possibly Nico Paz next season.
