Arsenal will face off against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames Stadium on Tuesday evening as they hope to secure a win in their opening match of the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners managed to earn a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest recently, which should keep them in good spirits ahead of this game.

Mikel Arteta will opt for the 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make some tweaks to his first XI for this contest. Piero Hincapie, Ben White and Myles Lewis-Skelly could all play from the start of this game.

Defence

David Raya will feature in goal for the Gunners after keeping a clean sheet in his last outing. Pierro Hincapie will function alongside Cristhian Mosquera at the heart of Arteta’s defence as they look to keep things solid at the back during the game.

Ben White will try to catch the eye as the right-back, while Myles Lewis-Skelly hopes to prove his worth on the other side as the left-back. Both of them would have to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack.

Gabriel will be named on the bench as he offers cover for the defensive positions.

Midfield

Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice will make up Arsenal’s midfield. Their focus would be to retain possession well at the centre of the park and engineer some clear-cut chances in the final third.

Ethan Nwaneri will have to settle for a place on the bench as he waits for his chance to make an impact in the second half if required. Martin Odegaard is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and is unlikely to be risked in this game.

Attack

Gabriel Martinelli will try to catch the eye on the left flank, while Noni Madueke hopes to put his pace to good use as the right-winger.

Viktor Gyokeres will once again lead the charge for the North London club up top. He managed to score against Nottingham and would be looking to do the same versus Bilbao this week.

Eberechi Eze will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the latter stages if Arsenal are in need of a goal by then.
