Liverpool performed poorly last season.

Everybody expected them to retain the title but, that couldn't have been further from the truth.

Whether it was because of players not being fit or them just not working well together, nothing went right for Arne Slot and his men at any point in the campaign.

That's why he was relieved of his duties and Andoni Iraola was appointed as the Reds' new boss.

However, without some new faces being brought in and without players being used in different positions, it feels like Liverpool will suffer the same fate during the 2026-27 campaign.

But, luckily for the Reds one of their current players seems to be going on a bit of a redemption arc ahead of the 2026-27 season kicking off.

Alexis Mac Allister's World Cup performances have been outstanding

Of all Liverpool's players during the 2025-26 season, Alexis Mac Allister was one of the worst-performing ones.

The Argentinian forgot how to run and, any time he found himself on the ball, he was always outmuscled or dispossessed by his opponents.

Sure, there were a couple of games when he looked like his old self but, more often than not, he left fans disappointed.

However, for Argentina in the 2026 World Cup, he's elevated his game to a whole new level.

The 27-year-old has featured in all five of his countries games and, while he may have only had one assist, his presence has been made more than known.

In fact, in their 3-2 win over Egypt, Mac Allister was one of Argentina's best players and, if he manages to carry this form into the 2026-27 season with Liverpool, his redemption arc will be well underway and he could also prove why the Reds should keep him.

With Curtis Jones potentially on his way out, Liverpool could already do with signing one midfielder this summer.

So, if Mac Allister was to leave and join someone such as Real Madrid, it would just give the Reds another problem that they'd need to solve.

However, if the Argentinian can run it back a couple of years and get back to his best, that would be a massive boost in their chase for silverware.

It would also save them an awful lot of money, which, with how many players they need to sign this summer, is exactly what they need to happen.

In addition to all of the money it would save Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai having a midfield partner who's performing to a similar standard as him would also be massively beneficial as it would mean that the Hungarian doesn't have to cover all three positions in the centre of the park.

Here's hoping that Mac Allister's form continues and that he can prove his worth to Iraola in pre-season.
