Hoffenheim’s January transfer window appears set to get more expensive. Having already brought striker Gift Orban to the Bundesliga for a reported €9m price tag, the Kraichgauer are now on the verge of purchasing 18-year-old winger Bazoumana Touré from Sweden’s Hammarby IF for a reported €10m.
Florian Plettenberg reports that the German and Swedish outfits have agreed to full terms. Including summer purchases, Hoffenheim have shelled out €66m for new players over the course of the current campaign. Orban, Robin Hranac, Valentin Gendrey, and Alexander Prass have all cost above €8m.
Striker Adam Hlozek’s move from Leverkusen counted as a €18m outlay while the club significantly overpaid for strikers Erencan Yardimici and Haris Tabakovic, as well as defender Arthur Chaves. Such moves continue to arouse suspicion of control within the club’s administration.
Hoffenheim were theoretically returned to “50+1” administration by wealthy benefactor Dietmar Hopp last spring. Massive spending from the club – which also includes an ex-head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo and sporting director Alexander Rosen nevertheless demonstrates the clout of SAP money.
