Holstein Kiel have parted company with Marcel Rapp and appointed Tim Walter as head coach on 24 February.
Walter returns for a second spell after 2018-19 and will begin on Wednesday at his first team training session, according to BuLi News.
After four and a half successful years, the club decided to end Rapp's tenure. Following lengthy internal discussions, the move was made jointly and unanimously to inject fresh impetus into the role.
Rapp succeeded Ole Werner in October 2021 during a difficult period and steadily developed the side. A landmark arrived with historic promotion to the Bundesliga in May 2024, a success closely associated with him.
In an online statement, Rapp said he looked back with gratitude and conviction. He said they developed a clear sporting identity and built lasting structures. He added that he respects the decision, will continue with full energy, that recent seasons strengthened his coaching skills, and that Kiel remains special to him as he wished the team success.
