Aston Villa travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool at Anfield in Saturday’s mouth-watering Premier League showdown.
The Villans are brimming with confidence, especially after dispatching Premier League juggernauts Manchester City on home turf in their last outing.
Matty Cash’s 19th-minute stunner was enough to help Villa extend their remarkable home record against the Cityzens.
They will fancy their chances of adding Liverpool to their list of casualties this weekend.
Unai Emery has managed to turn things around after a dismal start to the season, with Villa now enjoying a phenomenal run of form.
The Lions have won six of their last seven games in all competitions. Interestingly, Saturday’s hosts can only boast one win from their previous seven games in all competitions.
Villa held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in their last meeting. Despite the Reds’ current form, Villa are still heading into the game as underdogs.
They haven’t won a Premier League game at Anfield since September 2014, but they may not get a better chance to end their seven-match winless streak against the reigning champions.
Emery has no reason to tamper with the line-up that beat City last time out, but he will be forced to tweak his attacking set-up due to Emiliano Buendia’s injury.
That said, Emiliano Martinez is expected to start in goal, protected by a familiar back four of Lucas Digne, Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres, and Cash, who scored the winning goal against City.
Emery has managed to whip Villa’s defensive unit into a formidable wall.
Only four teams in the Premier League have conceded fewer goals than the Lions so far (Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Man City, and Sunderland).
Emery will demand more of the same from his rearguard, while Amadou Onana will likely continue his partnership with Boubacar Kamara in the middle of the park.
Villa hero Buendia, who set up Cash’s winner, picked up a knock against Man City and will be forced to watch the game at Anfield from the sidelines.
That paves the way for Donyell Malen to join Morgan Rogers and John McGinn in attack, with Ollie Watkins leading the line.
