Corinthians were champions in 1995 against Grêmio, then lost the 2001 final to Grêmio. They beat Brasiliense for the 2002 crown, finished runners-up to Sport in 2008, and overcame Internacional in 2009. They were then runners-up to Cruzeiro in 2018 and to Flamengo in 2022, the last settled on penalties.

Vasco fell to Flamengo in the 2006 final, then defeated Coritiba on aggregate in 2011 to lift the trophy.
