Everton return from the international break with a daunting Monday night trip to Manchester United.
The Toffees ended their three-game winless run with an excellent 2-0 victory over Fulham in their last match, arguably their most dominant display of the season.
They are 13th in the table with a chance to edge closer to the top half.
The display at the Hill Dickinson Stadium offered real encouragement. Everton put the ball in the net five times, had three goals ruled out, and kept their first clean sheet since September.
Everton showcased far more fluidity, control and aggression in possession.
That upturn will need to continue against a Man United side enjoying a resurgence, unbeaten in five and showing far more steel under manager Ruben Amorim.
Everton will sense an opportunity. United’s last Premier League outing on Monday night was on December 30, 2024.
They hosted Newcastle United at Old Trafford and lost 2–0.
United are also without Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire, and recently needed a 96th-minute Matthijs de Ligt header to salvage a point against Tottenham Hotspur.
Everton must be wary of the Red Devils. Moyes’ side are winless in six against them, losing five of those match-ups (D1).
Everton’s preparations have been complicated slightly by injuries.
Midfielder Merlin Rohl has undergone a hernia operation and will be sidelined for weeks, joining Jarrad Branthwaite (thigh) and Nathan Patterson (groin) on the treatment table.
Idrissa Gana Gueye and Tim Iroegbunam started the Fulham win, but the latter is expected to drop out while James Garner returns to midfield.
That allows Jake O’Brien (£43,750 per week) to reclaim his place at right-back.
Further forward, the attacking quartet will likely remain unchanged. Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish will again supply Thierno Barry.
The 23-year-old impressed before the break and keeps his place ahead of Beto despite still chasing his first Premier League goal.
(4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Jake O’Brien, Michael Keane, James Tarkowski, Vitaliy Mykolenko; James Garner, Idrissa Gueye; Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jack Grealish; Thierno Barry.
