Flamengo play their final match before the 2026 World Cup pause on Saturday, 30 May.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the moment recalls 2018. Under Maurício Barbieri, Felipe Vizeu struck three goals in succession and optimism grew.
They beat Paraná in the 11th round of the Brasileirão, opening a six-point lead over Atlético MG. In the Libertadores, they advanced as runners-up with four draws and two wins.
The interval gave the impression Flamengo were well set, yet they did not win the Brasileirão and fell in the Libertadores last 16 to Cruzeiro.
In 2022, the World Cup was staged in December because of the climate in Qatar, so Brazilian football had already finished.
This time Flamengo are second in the Brasileirão and qualified in first place in the Libertadores, steering a campaign that does not mirror 2018.
