A goalless draw against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town was enough to get the Black Country outfit over the line in their quest for survival, despite the EFL's decision to deduct the Baggies two points for breaching P&S rules.

And from such a remarkable turnaround, the Baggies legend has been made the permanent head coach at The Hawthorns, penning a two-year contract and hopeful of getting the club back towards the top end of the Championship table next season.

Now, with the regular season all over, the Baggies may well be in for a rebuilding process, with a number of first-team players expected to leave the building following such an underwhelming term.

But one player who wasn’t expected to be linked with a move away was defender George Campbell, who, according to a report by CeltsAreHere, has been touted for a summer move to Scottish giants Celtic.

Campbell reportedly has interest from other top Championship clubs and in the Bundesliga, with a £2.5m offer likely to be enough to persuade the Baggies to part ways with the American international.

Now a fresh report by Football Insider has indicated the feelings felt on the player’s side, detailing whether Campbell would welcome a move to Celtic Park from The Hawthorns.

As per the report made by Football Insider, it has claimed West Brom defender George Campbell would be open to leaving Albion for Celtic ahead of next season.

With interest rife to secure the 24-year-old’s signature, Celtic have accepted a deal will be difficult to pull off, but their involvement in the Champions League next season could well hold the key to landing the defender, who is keen to test himself at the highest possible level.

Campbell is believed to be one of numerous targets Celtic have on their shortlist as they plan to revamp their backline heading into next season, but the Scottish outfit are showing strong interest, particularly with such a low asking fee being so appealing.

George Campbell departure may be first West Brom blow for James Morrison

If West Brom were to lose George Campbell, it would be a big blow to their preparations for the 2026-27 campaign, particularly when the American has been fundamental to their revival under the Baggies icon.

Campbell passed a tough introductory test to Championship life with flying colours, with supporters finally seeing the best of his game in the heart of defence after being played at right-back under Ryan Mason and having little game time in Eric Ramsay’s short, but disastrous tenure.

While Albion won’t want to lose Campbell, the prospect of playing Champions League football is something the Black Country outfit can’t argue against, but the club will be crossing their fingers that Campbell views The Hawthorns as his long-term home and wants to thrive in the blue and white stripes for years to come.

If Albion are to be successful next season, then building around the partnership of Campbell and Nat Phillips is so important, but if they lose their star-studded American, then he will be a tough figure to replace during the summer transfer window.
