That was a bold move by Albion, as the 33-year-old has no senior managerial experience, aside from two short spells as a caretaker at Spurs.

Harry Kane’s role in Ryan Mason’s move to West Brom is revealed

However, the former player was highly-rated as a coach by the Premier League outfit, having worked under a host of managers in North London.

That includes being part of the backroom team under Ange Postecoglou, who delivered Spurs’ first trophy in 18 years when they beat Man United 1-0 in the Europa League final in May.

Yet, with Mason’s contract at Spurs expiring, it was unclear about what the future held for him, but he has decided to take a leap into management by joining Albion.

And, Football Insider has revealed that Kane played a big part in convincing his former teammate to take that step.

They explain that Mason and the Bayern Munich striker are close friends, to the extent that they have recently been on holiday together, and Kane was adamant that the West Brom opportunity was too good for his mate to turn down.

Ryan Mason can enhance his reputation at West Brom

Albion are a big club by Championship standards, and there has been optimism around the club since Shilen Patel purchased the Baggies.

It does seem like a great chance for Mason to start his managerial career, and he is very fortunate to get the opportunity to start in the second tier, so most would agree with Kane’s advice!

It will be a relief for all connected to Albion that the search for a new boss is over, and it’s now down to the owner to support Mason as much as possible in the transfer window.

Even though Mason is inheriting a squad that has plenty of talent, there are clear areas that can be strengthened, so there is business to be done.

So, it will be intriguing to see how this works out for West Brom and Mason, with Kane sure to be keeping an eye out on Albion’s results next season as he wishes his friend well in his first managerial job.
