FLW details how Jamie Vardy has performed for Cremonese since leaving Leicester City.

Leicester City hearts were shattered when the news broke last season that Jamie Vardy was bringing his 13-year stay at the King Power Stadium to an end.

The biggest icon to represent the club over its 141-year history, the 38-year-old played such a significant part in their Premier League trophy lift, winning the FA Cup and appearing on the Champions League stage, which saw them reach a quarter-final tie against Atlético Madrid.

His goalscoring exploits in the top two divisions saw Vardy reach the magical 200-goal mark in his Leicester career, with his final goal coming against Ipswich Town in the Premier League last term as the Foxes suffered immediate relegation back down to the second-tier.

Throughout the summer transfer window, speculation was rife about who Vardy’s next club would be.

The 38-year-old previously claimed that he was still good enough to be an influential asset in the Premier League, with Leeds United and Crystal Palace seemingly keen on handing him that wish at the time.

Meanwhile, a move to the MLS was touted with Charlotte FC registering an interest, while Hollywood-owned Birmingham City were looking to bolster their frontline by capturing his signature.

But in a rather rogue move, Vardy ended up moving away from England and taking on his first stint in Europe by moving to Italy, linking up with newly-promoted Cremonese, who were victorious over Spezia via the play-offs to gain their place in the top-flight.

Vardy signed a one-year contract with a further year on offer should his new club avoid relegation, with the vastly experienced frontman aiming to use his knowhow at the top of the game to help them achieve that goal.

With this in mind, Football League World has taken a look at how Jamie Vardy has performed for Cremonese so far.

Upon Jamie Vardy signing for Cremonese, the new Serie A outfit started the term in positive fashion, winning their opening two games against Sassuolo and AC Milan.

Since then, they have had goalless draws with Hellas Verona and Parma, leaving them sixth in the table and unbeaten on their return to the big time.

In terms of how Vardy is doing, the 38-year-old made his debut for the club against Hellas Verona, coming off the bench for 31 minutes, but he couldn’t help them find the desired breakthrough.

But the marksman went on to not feature in the matchday squad at home to Parma, as a minor muscle strain ruled him out of the other goalless clash.

Cremonese confirmed with a statement that the 38-year-old had undergone medical tests and that “more specific fitness test will be taken ahead of Sunday’s game”, but he was deemed not fit enough to take part.

Vardy will now have to wait another month to make his home debut for the Grigiorossi, as their next home game is on October 20 against Udinese.

Jamie Vardy will be frustrated by injury-fueled start to Cremonese career

After making his debut for the club and completing over 30 minutes of action, Jamie Vardy would have been hopeful of building up his fitness and earning some starts in Serie A later down the line.

But this small injury has disrupted that process. It was to be expected though, given how late it took the 38-year-old to find a new club, with Vardy completing no pre-season training before making the jump to Italy.

Age isn’t on his side either, and he will be hoping that these kinds of injuries aren’t regular occurrences that could cause him to be a flop for his new club.

However, we’ve seen on countless occasions the value that Vardy offers to a frontline, and if he can keep his body in check, then the goals should flow at the top end of the pitch and help the Serie A outfit maintain their place among Italy’s elite clubs beyond this season.

So far in the Championship, Leicester haven’t missed Vardy’s presence too much as they currently sit in a play-off position under Marti Cifuentes, but the coming months will be a clear indication to see whether they should have kept the Foxes icon on for one last dance.
