Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé stepped in to ensure that teammate and attacking partner-in-crime Vinícius Jr. did not pick up a potential sanction during the club’s most recent outing.

This came after the Brazilian was caught in a back-and-forth with the referee during Los Blancos’ meeting with Real Oviedo.

Xabi Alonso’s troops were of course back in action on Sunday evening, in a meeting with newly-promoted Oviedo at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere.

When all was said and done, the visitors emerged on the right side of a dominant 3-0 result, to keep pace with arch rivals Barcelona atop the Spanish top-flight table.

It was the aforementioned pairing of Mbappé and Vinícius who proved themselves decisive on the day, the former having notched a brace before Vini added some gloss to the scoreline late on.

And it was in the aftermath of his 2nd of the evening that Mbappé was spotted looking out for his teammate’s best interests.
