A report in the Italian press explained in detail how Lazio plans to raise €480 million to renovate the Stadio Flaminio.

Lazio Launched Stadio Flaminio Renovation Project

The Italian capital side has recently made important bureaucratic strides in its quest to receive the final green light from Rome’s City Council. Last month, the club publicly launched the project in a press conference that featured a detailed explanation from architects and experts who will oversee the project.

However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito failed to offer a convincing explanation when asked how he intends to finance the project, only offering a vague answer. But according to Il Sole 24 (via LazioNews24), the Biancocelesti do have a clear plan in this regard, as they look to raise €480 million from various streams.

How Will Lazio Raise €480m

As the source reveals, the bulk of the funding should come from banks and institutions, which are expected to provide €284 million, representing around 59% of the total investment. This figure will place a considerable debt on the club. The plan is to gradually repay it through the revenues generated from the new stadium over a lengthy period lasting between 60 and 90 years.

As for the remaining 41% of the investment, it will be provided through internal financing, with the club’s shareholders expected to contribute with €75-80 million through loans or equity contributions.

NewCo Set to Take Over Flaminio Project

Lotito also plans to launch a new company named NewCO, which will act as an independent entity tasked with building and managing the stadium, thus shielding the original company (which owns the club) from any financial repercussions that could stem from the Flaminio project.

Finally, the report expects the funds to be fully provided by 2027, which is when the building process is projected to start. Lotito is hoping that the renovation would be completed by 2031 and is even dreaming of hosting Euro 2032 at the new ground.
