Reds on verge of their second championship in five years as rivals Arsenal take on Crystal Palace
Liverpool could be crowned Premier League champions tonight.
Arne Slot’s side are on the verge of their 20th English top-flight title, which would pull them level with fierce rivals Manchester United.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s winning goal secured a 1-0 victory over Leicester on Sunday and moved Liverpool 13 points clear of second-placed Arsenal, who beat Ipswich 4-0 earlier in the day.
Mikel Arteta has previously insisted that he would never give up on winning the title as long as it’s mathematically possible.
But Liverpool know the trophy is almost theirs.
Arsenal are in action tonight when they host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium in a game that has been moved forward from the weekend because Palace are in the FA Cup semi-finals.
If Arsenal lose, then Liverpool will win the title.
If Arsenal draw or win, Liverpool’s wait goes on a little longer. But they can then win the title by beating Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool boss Slot said: “[I am] definitely looking forward to the week, because I assume that Arsenal - because they are such a good team - is able to win during the week.
“We probably have to do it ourselves, and the first chance we have is against Tottenham.
“Any moment that it happens [in], that would be special for them [the fans].”
