Derby County are among the clubs keen on a deal to sign David Datro Fofana this January
Chelsea are hoping to recoup as much of the £10 million fee they paid to sign David Datro Fofana amid links to Derby County.
According to the Daily Mail, it could take an eight-figure sum to prise the forward from the Blues this month, as the Championship side seek reinforcements in attack.
Fofana has had his loan with Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk terminated, with a view to a potential permanent exit from Stamford Bridge before the winter market shuts on 2 February.
The Ivorian spent the first half of the campaign plying his trade in the Super Lig, where he scored six goals from 13 appearances.
However, he has struggled to make much of an impact since joining Chelsea in the 2023 January transfer window in a deal worth around £10.9 million, having arrived as an extremely promising talent.

It is believed that the Blues are aiming to recoup as much of the fee they paid to sign the forward as they can.
The Rams reportedly face competition in the race to sign the striker from Royal Antwerp and Celtic.
It remains to be seen whether any of these clubs are willing to meet this asking price for the 23-year-old, who has played a total of three times in the Premier League for Chelsea.
Fofana also made 15 top flight appearances during his loan spell with Burnley in the 2023/24 campaign, contributing four goals and one assist.
It is unclear whether the forward is willing to take the step down to the Championship at this stage of his career, with Derby currently 12th in the table and five points adrift of a play-off place.
Next up for John Eustace’s side is a trip to face Charlton Athletic this evening in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Derby signed a lot of forwards in the summer, and Carlton Morris was proving an excellent signing until his injury issue, which has kept him out of action since November.
A £10 million fee or so for Fofana would be a big outlay for Derby, and would certainly signal their intent to push for promotion.
Although at this stage it seems rather unlikely they’d be able to compete with Celtic or Royal Antwerp for a deal of such size, and Derby's interest has been widely reported to involve taking the forward on a loan basis.

Fofana managed four goals in a poor Burnley side two seasons ago at Premier League level, which is an indication that he could do quite well in the Championship if he did join this month.
