According to Superdeporte, Liverpool have triggered Víctor Muñoz’s €40 million release clause, giving Real Madrid a significant windfall thanks to terms retained when he joined Osasuna.
Madrid kept 50% of the Spanish winger’s economic rights, so around €20 million from the fee goes directly to Real Madrid. The total has been put at about €25.5 million when previously agreed sums and add-ons are included.
The operation is viewed as a success by the club’s sporting department. Muñoz left Madrid’s academy a season ago in search of top-flight minutes, excelled at Osasuna and multiplied his market value to become one of the Premier League’s standout summer signings.
Madrid are also understood to have preserved elements of control over his future, including preferential options and buy-back mechanisms negotiated across earlier deals.
As Muñoz starts a new chapter at Anfield, Madrid underline the value of their academy policy, banking a major profit without parting with a current first-teamer and keeping open the possibility of future moves involving one of Spain’s revelations.
