According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the Blues have agreed a loan with an option to buy clause worth €8 (£6.9) million, which will become mandatory after a certain number of appearances for the club.

The Colombian has been with Girona since the 2023 summer transfer window, and he has so far made 49 appearances in La Liga in that time.

However, he has mostly featured as a secondary option, with only eight of his appearances coming as starts.

The 21-year-old is a defensively-minded option in the centre of the pitch, and Chris Davies will be hoping that he can bolster Birmingham's chances of fighting for promotion from the Championship.

Birmingham have agreed terms with Girona to move forward with the signing of Solis this January.

It is believed that the midfielder will arrive for an initial loan, at a cost of around £430,000, before potentially joining on a permanent basis.

It’s understood that a £6.9 million buy option fee has been agreed, and that option will become mandatory after 11 appearances for the club.

The Blues have already added Kai Wagner to their first team squad this month, as they look to bolster their promotion push for the second half of the campaign.

Solis is set to join on a contract until the summer of 2028, with the Midlands outfit’s sights set on a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2011.

Davies’ side are currently 14th in the Championship table after 26 games, seven points adrift of the play-off places.

Next up for Birmingham is a trip to face Swansea City on 17 January in a 5.30pm kick-off.

Jhon Solis signing has a lot of potential for Birmingham

Solis is unlikely to go straight into the team as a starter given their midfield options, but he could prove a very shrewd long-term addition.

He already has plenty of top flight experience from his time in Spain, and he should bring some defensive solidity to the side.

The 21-year-old also has room to grow his game and develop, so he could be worth a lot more than this £7 million deal in a few years, provided he does take a step forward.

This is also a move that shows the club’s commitment to investing in the team, and their backing of Davies as head coach.
