Vitor Matos arrived as manager in November after a difficult start to the campaign, and he has maintained the side’s mid-table position from the previous term.

But the gap to the play-off places could now be too big to overcome in the final months, with just 11 fixtures now remaining.

The Welsh outfit have not competed in the Premier League since their relegation in 2018, and their last top six finish in the Championship came in 2021.

Since then, the team have come 15th, 10th, 14th and 11th in the standings, and they look set to miss out on the top six again this year.

But the improvement in form of Zan Vipotnik has been one major bright spark to the season so far, with the forward contributing 16 goals and two assists from 33 appearances in the league.

Rangers eye summer swoop for Zan Vipotnik

Rangers are believed to be leading the race for Swansea’s Vipotnik this summer amid his 16-goal campaign.

According to Football FanCast, the Scottish giants have turned their attention to the Slovenian following his impressive performances for Matos’ side this season.

Danny Rohl’s side are in the mix for the Premiership title this term, but are currently six points behind leaders Hearts.

It’s understood that the Glasgow outfit are in the mix for a new forward in the upcoming transfer market, as they look to provide competition for Youssef Chermiti.

Vipotnik is in his second year of a four-year contract with the Swans, with his deal set to expire in June 2028, giving the club some leverage in any potential transfer negotiations this summer.

It remains to be seen what kind of asking price Swansea will set for the forward, who has been a key figure in the side this year, with West Ham having also reportedly been nterested in the player back in January.

The 23-year-old joined from French side Bordeaux in the 2024 summer transfer window, and he has so far registered 23 league goals from 75 appearances.

Swansea are currently 16th in the Championship table, 11 points adrift of the play-off places with only 11 games to go.

Matos’ side have won just one of their last four league games, which has seen them fall behind sixth place Wrexham, who have earned 10 points from their last four matches.

Next up for the Swans is a home clash against Stoke City on 7 March in a 3pm kick-off.

Sizable offer will be needed to pry Zan Vipotnik from Swansea this summer

Vipotnik’s goals have been crucial for Swansea this season, and replacing someone capable of 16 goals will prove very tricky if they were to cash in this summer.

That’s why it will surely take a very sizable offer from Rangers in order to convince the club to let him go, particularly as he still has two years left on his contract.

This upcoming transfer window is when Vipotnik’s transfer value will likely be at its highest, but keeping him for another year could be more valuable than any deal Rangers can offer as he is the kind of player that can power a promotion push.

It will be a tricky situation for Swansea if Rangers can make a big offer, as it will surely take an eight-figure sum, potentially even close to £15 or 20 million, to convince the club to cash in.
