Robert Sanchez had a solid season and ended up with some good stats, although he has some way to go to match the top keepers.

We’re looking at how some Chelsea players’ stats look after a completed Premier League season. Rob Sanchez had a decent year (certainly by his standards), and his numbers back up the eye test that he was solid for the majority of the campaign.

How Sanchez’s stats stack up

Sanchez finds himself in 6th place in the league in the “goals prevented” table – which measures the xG faced compared to how many actual goals went in.

That’s good going – the keepers above him in that risk are all really considered some of the better keepers in the league, from Gigi Donnarumma and Senne Lammens to Emi Martinez, Jordan Pickford and Bart Verbruggen.

But a closer look shows that Sanchez is still some way off the top – he totalled 1.7 goals prevented, while top of the table Donnarumma had an insane 5.8.

That’s what a real elite shot stopper looks like.

Still, there’s no doubt that this season was a really solid one for Sanchez in compared to some which have gone before.
