The Red Dragons will be welcoming the Club World Cup winners to North Wales next month

Wrexham AFC co-owner and Hollywood A-lister, Ryan Reynolds, has issued a viral reaction to the news that his club will be hosting Club World Cup champions, Chelsea, in the fifth round of the FA Cup next month.

Reynolds watched the iconic cup draw, which took place ahead of Brentford's 1-0 victory over non-league Macclesfield FC on Monday night, with a great deal of anticipation alongside Australian actor, Hugh Jackman, and was left astounded that the North Wales club had been set up to face Liam Rosenior's side from West London.

The Red Dragons' ambition has been well-documented ever since Reynolds and Rob Mac began their ownership tenure at the Stok Cae Ras after completing an initial £2m transaction in February 2021, with Wrexham still in the midst of their lengthy stint in the National League at that particular time.

Fast-forward five years and Phil Parkinson has been able to mastermind one of the quickest transformations any side in English football has ever seen, with the Welsh side becoming the first-ever club to achieve three successive promotions, taking them from the highest level of non-league to their current position in the Championship in just two years.

Wrexham have also immediately made their mark on the second-tier in what is their first campaign at this particular level for 43 years, with Parkinson's squad being overhauled once more throughout the two transfer markets this term to give the club a strong chance of reaching the play-off places straight away.

They were inside the top six for a handful of gameweeks, before being knocked off this particular perch over the course of the weekend as a result of Derby County's 2-0 victory over Swansea City, which came less than 24 hours after the Red Dragons saw off Ipswich Town to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since the 1996/97 season.

As well as seeing off the Tractor Boys in North Wales on Friday night courtesy of Josh Windass' 34th-minute strike, Wrexham have already defeated Premier League opposition this season, emerging victorious over Nottingham Forest in the third round on penalties after an enthralling 120 minutes of normal action which ended in a 3-3 draw between the two sides.

As previously mentioned, it has been 29 years since the Red Dragons made such progress in the world's most iconic cup competition, with Reynolds hoping his side would draw a high-quality side which would certainly grab worldwide attention due to the club's recent trajectory and Disney documentary series.

After ball number seven had been drawn out, Jackman says to Reynolds: "Oh! Chelsea," with the Red Dragons' co-owner eventually responding with "We're at home to Chelsea. Yes, f***. What the f***!"," after 'composing' himself.

As well as captioning the video with: 'Chelsea at the Racecourse! Holy crap', the American followed it up with further thoughts on his Instagram story with the words of: @Wrexham_AFC hosting @ChelseaFC. Real life need not apply."

Wrexham AFC will hope to succeed where two previous Championship clubs have fallen short vs Chelsea

The encounter, which will take place around the weekend of Saturday, March 7th, will be just the 10th time Wrexham have faced off against Chelsea in their entire history, with the last of those being a 1-0 victory for the Welsh club in February 1982.

Parkinson's side will hope to succeed where both Charlton Athletic and Hull City have fallen short in the previous rounds, with Rosenior's men achieving 5-1 and 4-0 scorelines away to the Addicks and Tigers respectively.

The 58-year-old does have a history of defying the odds against the capital club, though, having masterminded a comeback for the ages back in January 2015 against José Mourinho's Chelsea whilst in charge of Bradford City, with the League One side coming from 2-0 down to win 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
