Bologna have won three of their last four matches in all competitions including a 4-3 win away at Roma to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Despite sitting fourth in the Premier League Aston Villa have been on the receiving end of heavy defeats to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks. However, they won their most recent competitive match 2-0 against West Ham.
Over the international break Villa took part in a friendly against Elche in which they were beaten 2-1 by Elche.
Unai Emery spoke about the threat that the Italian side pose ahead of the clash.
“They are so, so intense and aggressive in their tactical idea, collectively getting a lot of duel,” he said. “We’ve used our information from playing against them to try and understand how the match will go.
“Respecting the Europa League competition and Bologna as a team, I know how much difficulty there will be in this round for different reasons.”
