It has been an emotional July for NJ/NY Gotham FC.  They finished the month with a solid 4-1-1 record that did not start well with a loss against San Diego Wave FC.  But then they had an incredible win against the Washington Spirit in the Queens Classic.  There was also the crazy comeback win against Seattle Reign FC.  New players arrived, and some left, including the unexpected departure of Esther González.  Plus, it appeared that Emily Sonnett suffered an awful knee injury.

So, there were a lot of highs with some lows, and now, Gotham FC will strive to start August with a big win.  They will travel to Texas to face the Houston Dash in the final fixture of the three-game road trip.  The team did not play a midweek game like the Bats, so they will be more rested for the upcoming meeting.  But funny enough, like the NJ/NY side, their last opponent was Bay FC.  They too won 1-0.

But Houston has continued to struggle over the years, and this season is no different.  They are in 12th place in the NWSL standings, winning just five matches so far.  So, on paper, Gotham should get the win.  But that is not a guarantee, and playing a midweek game might impact the Bats.  What is true, though, is that the visitors know what it takes to beat the Dash.

After all, they won the home meeting back in May, which was the last game before the break in June.  But at the same time, Houston knows what it takes to beat the NJ/NY team, for they did win one of the matches last year and shared the points in the other.  Nevertheless, Gotham FC is easily capable of coming home with three more points.

Final notes

It will be a fast reunion for Gotham FC, for they will play against Khyah Harper’s new team since she was recently traded to the Texas side last week.  Hopefully, the forward will find success in her new home.
