Reds look to overcome defensive injury woes as Magpies visit Anfield
Liverpool return to Premier League action this evening, hosting Newcastle at Anfield.
Both sides involved this evening enjoyed productive weekends in Europe.
Arne Slot’s Reds continued their impressive continental campaign with a six-goal drubbing of Azerbaijani champions Qarabag, with Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah among the goalscorers.
The victory came in spite of the fact that Slot had only one fit senior centre-back at his disposal in Virgil van Dijk, with Ryan Gravenberch partnering him in the backline.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle produced a rather more impressive result, though, battling to a 1-1 draw with the reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain as Joe Willock scored his first goal in a year.
The Magpies will hope to continue their winning form as they visit Merseyside today, knowing a win could lift them above Liverpool in the Premier League table.
The Reds, meanwhile, could still only have one centre-back available, with their injury headaches compounded by Jeremie Frimpong’s latest knock.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports 1, with coverage starting at 7pm GMT ahead of the 8pm GMT kick off.
