Newcastle head into this match off the back of two wins in the Premier League against Everton and Manchester City respectively, which sandwiched their 2-1 defeat away to Marseille in the Champions League in midweek.
Tottenham have won just two of their last ten matches in all competitions, and completed a terrible week with a self-inflicted 2-1 defeat to Fulham, after shipping nine goals against Arsenal and PSG combined in their previous two matches.
Eddie Howe on his Newcastle side trying to find consistency after a mixed start to the season: “It’s vitally important we find the consistency we’re searching for. It seems like we’re going between Champions League and Premier League and not quite finding that sweet spot we’ve been searching for all season.
“Hopefully this is the turning point for us. Every opponent we face in the Premier League is so difficult and now we face Tottenham who are a very good team with their own strengths. We’ll put our plan in place to try and find a way to win.”
Thomas Frank has called on the fans to continue backing Spurs through their difficult run of form: “I completely understand the frustration. If we don’t win there will always be a frustration. We have not won much at home this season and also last so the frustration can grow. It’s my job to do what we can to have calm.
“We are nothing without the fans. Tottenham Hotspur is nothing without the fans. My point was that during matches we need each other. Afterwards the booing can be fair. During, we need to make it a fortress and to do that we need to be together.”
