Since losing the Belgian Super Cup final, USG have been on fine form. They are unbeaten in their last ten matches, winning eight of them. Their impressive victory over PSV displayed that USG are a side with real quality.
Newcastle have endured a slow start to their season, which has seen them struggle to build any real momentum. Their pre-season was heavily disrupted by the exit of Alexander Isak and the Magpies’ only wins have comes against bottom-placed Wolves and League One Bradford City. Despite this, Newcastle have been unlucky to come away from games against both Liverpool and most-recently Arsenal without any points.
Ahead of the match, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe praised his upcoming opponents. “They have started the season very, very strongly,” said the manager. “A great result in the Champions League against PSV.
“They are tactically interesting, and they will give us a physical threat with two big strikers. I’ve been really impressed by watching them.
“We know it will be an important game on our Champions League journey. It’s going to be a tough game. This will be a good challenge for us at a time in the season where we need to perform.”
