This match takes place only two weeks after Seattle’s convincing 3–0 defeat of Miami in the Leagues Cup final, which had an unfortunate altercation after the full-time whistle that resulted in suspensions.
Miami come into this match with pressure after losing to Charlotte 3–0 on September 13, in which Tomás Avilés was sent off and will now serve suspension.
Luis Suárez will still serve his three-match suspension for his role in the Leagues Cup incident. Both suspensions will hit Javier Mascherano’s team hard, leaving even more creative responsibilities for Lionel Messi.
Seattle are riding a steady run in the West. Brian Schmetzer’s team are full of momentum and have squad depth, which makes them dangerous on the road.
Inter Miami: Ustari; Fray, Allen, Falcon, Alba; De Paul, Bright, Busquets, Segovia; Messi, Allende
Unavailable: Luis Suárez and Tomas Aviles (suspension), Allen Obando, Baltasar Rodriguez, David Ruiz, Fabrice Picault (injury).
Unavailable: Joao Paulo, Paul Arriola, Pedro De la Vega, Ryan Kent, Stuart Russell Hawkins (injury).
Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami have only played each other twice in their history and are tied 1–1. Miami won the first meeting in April 2022 1–0 in MLS regular season play but Seattle answered back with a 3–0 win in the 2025 Leagues Cup Final.
Across the two matches the Sounders have a 3–1 edge in goals but the head-to-head is even.
This game is layered with storylines: a rematch of the Leagues Cup final with Messi attempting to lift a depleted Miami side, and Seattle arriving for their first match of the season with confidence. Miami’s gaps in defense and attack could be disastrous.
