Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as their new coach, and many Liverpool fans are very frustrated by that.

Jamie Carragher went on Sky Sports news last night to talk about Chelsea’s appointment of Xabi Alonso. Against most people’s expectations, the former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid coach has been appointed on a four year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Fans are delighted, and fans of rival clubs are presumably gutted.

Carragher backs Alonso as “huge coup” for Chelsea

“I think it’s a great move for Chelsea. I think when you look at the options out there for a lot of teams looking for managers right now, I don’t think there’s many better options out there than Xabi Alonso,” the pundit said.

“Great playing career, great managerial career so far as well, and yeah, it’s a huge coup for Chelsea to get him.”

We can only imagine how frustrated Carragher – and lots of other Liverpool fans – must be. This is a guy with a strong Liverpool connection, who they would dearly as their coach. Instead they’re sticking with Arne Slot, who is quite clearly a lame duck at this point.
