A journalist from L’Equipe remarked that the winger was still „relatively unknown“ in France despite his strong numbers. This assessment initially caused surprise among Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian responded with a brief „okay“ before going into more detail about the qualities of his protégé, highlighting his development in particular. Kompany had clear words for the attacking player and highlighted his mentality in particular. „What makes Michael Olise so special? His mentality. He’s a boy who works in great detail,“ explained the Bayern coach.

He even drew a prominent comparison from his own past: „In terms of mentality, I compared him to Kevin De Bruyne and I will always do that.“ Kompany added: „What makes Michael so annoying in training, I have the feeling I’m seeing a young Kevin who is always demanding and analyzes everything down to the last detail.“

In addition to his attitude, the coach also highlighted his footballing ability: „What Michael does, how he shoots, how he dribbles, right and left foot – I’ve seen that in a player before,“ said the 39-year-old.

Olise has scored 16 goals and provided an incredible 27 assists this season, making him one of the decisive factors in Bayern’s game. At the same time, he is even less in the spotlight internationally, which is partly due to his career so far without a stop in France and few appearances at major tournaments.
