As per Darren Witcoop, Hull City are keen to appoint Argyle boss Miron Muslic as their new manager - with the 42-year-old emerging as the favoured candidate.

Despite suffering relegation with Plymouth, Muslic has gained admirers for his work at Home Park with three wins in the final five of the season a valiant attempt at securing Championship survival - you can only wonder where they'd have ended up if he was appointed earlier.

Former Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut is also believed to be in the Tigers' thoughts. Bulut was dismissed by the Welsh side in September 2024, after picking up just one point from their opening six league games.

Before that disastrous run, he had led the Bluebirds to a 12th-place finish in 2023/24.

Emre Belozoglu no longer in contention as Hull City weigh up their options amid Miron Muslic, Erol Bulut claimHull had reportedly held talks with former Newcastle United player and current Antalyaspor boss Emre Belozoglu, but Witcoop says he appears to be out of the running.

Hull's search for a new manager comes after the club confirmed the departure of Ruben Selles on Thursday evening, who had only been in East Yorkshire five months.

He had managed to guide the Tigers to safety on the final day after joining a side who were bottom of the table in December - which wasn't enough to please Ilicali.

Concerns over the team's style of play and poor end-of-season form were the reasons for letting Selles go. They did only manage to survive on goal difference after all, finishing above Luton Town.

Next appointment crucial for Hull City, Acun Ilicali after another disappointing season

This appointment represents a huge decision for Ilicali, who has not been shy of letting managers go, getting rid of both Liam Rosenior - who is now gaining plaudits at Strasbourg - and Tim Walter, all in the past 12 months prior to appointing Selles in December.

He took over City with a view - like many - to return to the top-flight of English football, something which remains unfulfilled after eight years away from the Premier League.

If they were to mount anything remotely close to a promotion push next season - the new manager needs time. Ilicali has proven to be impatient with those he appoints, and with Muslic emerging as the preferred option, time will tell if he feels the Austrian-Bosnian is the right fit for the club.
