Hansi Flick made several rotations to his FC Barcelona starting line-up in last night’s match against Real Sociedad at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, keeping in view the upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Benfica.

However, these rotations ended up being decisive, as it was Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, and Ronald Araujo, none of them regular starters for Flick in recent games, who scored the first three goals for the Blaugranes.

This was a particularly memorable night for the fullback Gerard Martin, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also talked to Barca One and other media outlets after the game.

The young defender expressed his joy and surprise at scoring the goal, which he dedicated to his deceased grandmother:

“I couldn’t believe that I had scored. I kissed the badge because that was my first instinct. It had been years since Marc and I last scored. There were some jokes in the locker room.”

Martin also highlighted the good depth that this Barcelona squad enjoys:

“We have a very deep squad, and we are all fully focused so that when we get the opportunity, we can perform well.”

Further talking about this memorable event, the defender said:

“Today has been perfect, both for the result and for scoring my first goal… I remembered some teammates who told me it was impossible for me to score. Today, I thought about them and, of course, my family, who were in the stands as well… Iñaki told me he would shave his head if I scored, but I don’t think he’s actually going to do it.”

The youngster also commented on how the early red card made things easier for his side:

“Today, it was a bit more difficult for us at the beginning, but after the red card, we dominated the game much more and attacked a lot. That was reflected in the scoreline… I haven’t seen the replay, but on the pitch, it felt like it was because he was the last man.”

There is no doubt that this night would live in Martin’s memory for a long time. Hopefully, he will be able to make similar contributions whenever he gets the chance to play for Barcelona in the coming weeks and months as well.
