FLW's Leeds United fan pundit has discussed the possibility of signing Oxford United's Tyler Goodrham
This article is part of Football League World’s 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Leeds United's FLW fan pundit is unsure whether Oxford United's Tyler Goodrham is the player for them amid his recent links with a move to Elland Road.
According to Football Insider, the Whites, Sunderland, Swansea City and Coventry City are all keen on the young midfielder who has developed superbly in the Championship this term.
Plying his trade at the Kassam Stadium, Goodrham is regarded as one of the top talents in the second tier after three consistent seasons with the U's.
Leeds are yet to make an addition this window, but adding the 21-year-old would be a shrewd addition with an eye on the future. While he may not have an immediate impact this season, he could still provide valuable cover and, should they be without some of their regular first-team players, he could step in and do a job.
With the above interest in mind, Football League World spoke to their resident Whites pundit, Kris Smith, who believes Goodrham isn't the answer this January.
"I think this January window has to be about making a signing or two that can improve our starting line-up, but I just don't think Tyler Goodrham is that player," said Smith.
"He is clearly doing well, and they're pushing their way away from the relegation zone, so him being speculated with a top-end Championship move isn't a shock. Given his age, he is doing really well at 21.
"I don't see how he is better than what we currently have out wide or in attacking midfield.
"We could do with improving attacking midfield going forward, but is Goodrham going to displace Brenden Aaronson in the same way that Emi Buendia would? I think it is hard to envisage Goodrham doing that, even if he is a talented player for the future.
"We need players that are good enough here and now."
While the potential signing of Goodrham has its benefits, as Smith pointed out, for Leeds to secure promotion, they need players who are ready to contribute now.
With other links pointing to Buendia, they would be better off targeting the Argentine, whose record in the second tier is exemplary. Across 77 Championship appearances, the 28-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided 28 assists for his teammates.
This doesn't mean they should ignore the Oxford midfielder, as if he is still available in the summer, he could represent a good addition with an eye on the future.
