Among the three forwards offloaded by Manchester United in the winter window was Antony, who’s now looking to revive his stagnant career over in Spain before returning to Old Trafford this summer.
The 24-year-old departed to Real Betis without even making a single Premier League start in 2024/2025, while the only three matches he was given the nod in came in the Carabao Cup (twice) and the Europa League.
Antony made nine appearances in total under Ruben Amorim, who made it clear the Brazilian would continue playing the reduced role he’d grown accustomed to in Erik ten Hag’s final months as manager.
Whether he’ll be granted the chance to live up to his price tag upon the culmination of his loan spell remains to be seen. There was no buy option included in the terms – unlike Marcus Rashford’s agreement with Aston Villa – suggesting that may well be the case at the end of the campaign.

Speaking out for the first time since his Old Trafford departure, Antony told Spanish outlet AS this week: “I had other offers, but when Betis appeared, I felt a certainty in my heart that made me stay calm. I am happy here, and I want to achieve many goals.
“I am happy here for everyone, for the manager and the players. I feel calm and confident.”
He added: “I want to find my best version, and the first step is to be happy. Everything here is incredible; my family and I are happy. Now it is time to work to be in my best version and help the club.”
“If I have to stay longer, I would have to talk to the president and everything. And for now, I want to play and score goals and give assists.”
