Joao Pedro has revealed what he told Robert Sanchez in Chelsea’s game against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues put in a terrible first half performance and found themselves 2-0 down thanks to a brace from Nick Woltemade.

However, whatever Enzo Maresca said at half time worked, and Chelsea came out a different team, with Reece James scoring a brilliant free kick to start the fight back, before Pedro scored the equaliser.

In the absence of Liam Delap , Pedro once again led the line, but like every Chelsea player he struggled to make an impact in the first half.

However, he took his goal brilliantly as he controlled a long ball forward from Sanchez, shrugged off Malick Thiaw, and calmly slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

It was a very route one goal, and not something we’ve seen very often from Chelsea this season, and Pedro revealed afterwards it’s something he had discussed with Sanchez.

“Since the Atalanta game, the gaffer has told me to be ready for these kinds of passes, because if I win the ball, I can be in a great position, and that’s what happened today,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I told Robert to send long balls towards me because I was in a one-versus-one situation, and I knew if I could control the ball, I would be in front of the goal.

“I was able to do that, and then one-on-one with the goalkeeper, I scored.”

Liam Delap could return against Aston Villa

Whilst Pedro has got back to some of his form from earlier in the season over the last couple of games, Chelsea have been boosted by the fact Delap could return against Aston Villa next weekend.

Delap suffered a shoulder injury against Bournemouth earlier this month, and was initially expected to miss six-eight weeks, but it appears he’ll be back sooner.

His return can’t come quick enough, and having another option at the top end of the pitch can only benefit Chelsea.
