Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola jokes that he wants “all the records” as he discussed the challenges of rebuilding his squad.
There has been speculation that this could be Guardiola’s last season at Man City, but the Spaniard says he is relishing the challenge of getting City back to the top.
“I said many times to you, I want to be the best in everything and have all the records,” Guardiola said jokingly. “That’s why I said last time, I want to spend more money to be the first one to spend money.
“You say Alex Ferguson rebuilt three times? Then I want to rebuild three times.”
The Catalan continued more sincerely: “The process to rebuild is quicker when everybody’s fit.
“We have had this amount of injuries – in the last month we have had seven or eight. In Norway, eleven absences, so it is more difficult to use this time to understand some things.
“But in football, there is no time. The fans, the owners, the chairman say ‘Time? Win games, my friend.’
“Win games and forget about the rest. That is what it’s about.”

City’s rebuild took its latest steps in January with the acquisitions of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi. Both players were targeted by a number of Premier League rivals and top clubs around Europe, however it was City who were able to secure their signatures.
Asked how he convinces stars to move to the Etihad, Guardiola answered: “Well, I can tell them all the big things I believe the club has, but they have to feel it.
“Always when I speak with the players or the club speak with the players, I tell them, sleep with your pillow as much as you have to be convinced. Don’t come here if you don’t feel it.
“I think also from outside, they see what the club is, the way we play, in terms of as a team.
“Always I can tell them what I truly, truly believe. I never say something that I believe the club is not.
“I say we have very good things and there are other ones that maybe could be better.
“So at the end, the final decision belongs to the players. Always decide for yourself, not your agent, not your mum and dad.
“If you want to join us, you want to play with us and that’s all.”
