Roberto De Zerbi was steadfast on Friday afternoon, speaking to the press for the first time since the fallout of a violent altercation betwen Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe last weekend. The conference attended by Get French Football News was a lively affair, as De Zerbi defended the club’s decision to place both players on a transfer list – responding also to criticism and claims made by Veronique Rabiot last night on the decision. “These are the facts: on Monday, when the decision was communicated to the players, it was temporary. Then things escalated, not because of OM but because of those around him. I put my pride aside,” said De Zerbi when recounting his version of the events over the weekend.“So when Rabiot’s mother says I bark, it’s true, as you can see in the series about OM. But sometimes I’m also capable of hugging Rabiot and showing him that we’re behind him. Ten days ago, when he was looking for a house, I told him I’d give him my house in Aix-en-Provence and I’d go and stay in a hotel.”“I did it for Adrien. But I don’t have to prostitute myself for a player who wins matches for us. Everyone has to show respect, from Vaz to Rabiot and Hojbjerg.”Marseille will be back in Ligue 1 action tomorrow as Les Olympiens face promoted side Paris FC at the Stade Vélodrome.
