Ian Cathro has been appointed Saint-Étienne head coach, replacing Philippe Montanier. The appointment was made official late on Monday afternoon.
According to L'Équipe, AS Saint-Étienne reached a financial agreement with Estoril over the weekend to buy out the final two years of the Scot's contract, which ran to June 2028.
Cathro led Estoril for two seasons, finishing eighth in 2024-2025 and 10th in 2025-2026.
Montanier chose not to continue in Ligue 2 and his deal was due to expire at the end of June.
Aged 39 and born in Dundee, Cathro holds the UEFA Pro Licence. He did not have a notable professional playing career, but has built a European coaching profile.
He has worked in Scotland, Portugal, England, Spain and Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad. He was head coach at Heart of Midlothian and Estoril, and assistant to Nuno Espirito Santo at Valencia, where he worked in the Champions League.
