Ian Wright has urged Manchester United to go all out to sign Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson this summer. Manchester City are seen as frontrunners and a price in excess of £100 million has been mooted. Head coach Vitor Pereira wants to keep the England midfielder, though Forest’s resolve is likely to be tested.
"Man United should do everything to try to make sure they get him," Wright said on The Overlap.
He praised Anderson’s ability and said he appears to raise his level with England. He suggested the midfielder sometimes tries things at Forest he would not with the national side.
"I’d pay for him. I’d pay for him."
Roy Keane took a different view on the valuation, saying Anderson is still learning. He referenced below-par displays against Newcastle and Villa in the Europa League and said England’s group matches were easy, with the real test to come in World Cup knockout games.
Asked if he could understand paying £70-80m for the 23-year-old, Keane said he could. He questioned talk of £100 million to £125 million, while indicating 60 or 70 would still draw interest.
Anderson is not the only Forest player linked with Old Trafford. Wright said Ibrahim Sangare could fit because of his physicality, adding, "Maybe not some of his technicality, but his physicality."
