Jonathan David (25) remains one of the hottest targets as we slowly approach the summer transfer window. The Lille OSC striker has long been linked with a departure from the French club. However, no suitor has ever been able to lift the forward away from Les Dogues.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems likely that David will leave Ligue 1 as a free agent with plenty of clubs across Europe circling the waters. In recent comments, the Canadian international revealed a preference for playing in La Liga, stating, “That is the league that I enjoyed watching the most so one day I would like to play there.”

Following Canada’s 2-1 victory over neighbours USA, David’s future was once again broached in a post-match interview with CBS. The striker was asked about whether he needed to leave Lille to take the next step in his career before the World Cup next year or to continue his progress at his current club.

David responded, “I’m not sure if I’m staying or going, but if I do end up going I think I have to push myself at the very highest level.” He added, “When you play for a big club your position is never guaranteed and you have to fight… I’m never guaranteed anywhere I go to start every game. I have to perform. I’m willing to fight. I know it’s an important year, it’s a big decision, so I’ll make a wise decision.”
