We wanted to get a snapshot of how Newcastle United fans are thinking.

Three months into the season and 17 matches played so far across three competitions.

Now in the November international break and Newcastle United fans seeing their team win eight games, draw three, lose six.

Those results summing up a start to the season with plenty of ups and downs.

Plenty to talk about as we ask a number of Newcastle United fans, who are regular/irregular contributors to The Mag, to give us their views on the season so far, plus what will happen as we move forward.

Next up is Jinky Jim answering the questions.

Three words to describe how you currently feel as a Newcastle fan?

Expect the unexpected

If you had to choose. A win against Sunderland but lose to Fulham in Carabao Cup quarter-final, or lose to Sunderland and go through to Carabao Cup semi-finals?

For years I have always answered this question as “win a trophy” but the current situation is different.

We have to beat this lot. But I would settle for a point. The media fall out from a defeat could see our season implode.

Would winning the Carabao Cup again this season BUT finishing outside the Premier League top six, be success or failure?

Winning a trophy has to be seen as a successful season, or what are we playing for?

So finishing 8th would be ok for me. However, if Newcastle United were to “do a Spurs” it would be seen as a problem by many.

Hand on heart, what is your best estimate (not hope!) of where Newcastle United will end up this season in the Premier League, the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup, how well they will realistically do in each of them?

Premier league, 7th or 8th.

Champions league, last 16.

FA Cup. It’s a lottery. Get Arsenal away in third round and we are out, but Carlisle at home, then Hull at home etc, and who knows.

League Cup. We will beat Fulham but then it’s likely to be Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal. Just like last year. Get the second leg at home and I think we could be off to Wembley again.

In order, which six NUFC players have been the most impressive so far this 2025/26 season?

That’s a difficult question because we have been so inconsistent. You can argue that no one has been impressive all season. But at times; Sandro, Thaiw, Big Nick , Jacob Murphy, Bruno, Trippier.

Eight months ago, Eddie Howe banked the first trophy for Newcastle in 56 years, then two months later secured a second Champions League qualification in three years. Some Newcastle fans appear to be questioning his position now. What are your thoughts on Eddie Howe and how much more time has he earned to get the league position sorted and beyond that, or not?

This time last year I wrote a piece discussing whether Eddie had taken us as far as he could. That aged well, didn’t it.

We have waited a lifetime for some success and now some want to dump the man at the first signs of problems. Come on, he deserves this season to turn it around. Just like he did last year. But he will know that finishing 14th will end his time at the club.

What do you think about how the summer transfer window was conducted by Newcastle United?

Far far too late, not helped by the Isak debacle. Common sense says your new players are better than the old but at the moment that doesn’t seem to be the case. But I remind myself that it’s just 11 PL games into the season.

In the future after they have all finished their Newcastle United careers, what is your guesstimate on how the six summer signings will each be assessed. In each case – Thiaw, Ramsdale, Ramsey, Woltemade, Elanga and Wissa to be seen as one of these three choices – A success, Done OK, Failure.

Thaiw- a success

Ramsdale- if he gets into the team, he could easily be a success. Sitting on the bench however will mean his time has been a non-event.

Ramsey – He strikes me as a done ok type of player. Not an eye catcher but still important to the team.

Elanga – like us all, I desperately want him to have a game that will kick start a great time with us. But he just isn’t doing anything yet. Sadly I think he is gone in two years. I think he will be joined by Gordon and Barnes.

Woltemade and Wissa – their fate could be entwined. If they click they could become heroes. If they don’t…I think our season depends on how these two gel.

What do you see as three negative things for Newcastle United so far this season?

To paraphrase the former right honourable member for Sedgefield – Expectation, Expectation, Expectation.

The negatives are that a season where so far we win three Champions League games and reach the last eight of the league cup, is seen as a crisis.

We have issues to address, of course we do , but it’s hardly 1992 or 2009.

What would represent success in the 2025/26 season for Newcastle United?

Repeating last season? Winning the league cup with a decent league finish.

But should the draw be very kind and we somehow get to the last eight of the champions league, would that be seen as progress?

Predict the top six in the Premier League (in order) and which three clubs will be relegated.

Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Villa.

Wolves, Fulham, Burnley

Next three seasons, would you rather finish top four all three seasons BUT win nothing, or finish mid-table all three seasons AND win the FA Cup in one of the three?

Having achieved the dream last year, I’m afraid I’m becoming more inclined to accept the “build the brand” argument. And I hate myself for saying it.

What are your thoughts on the fact that we are now more than four years after the takeover and still no plans announced on a new training ground, nor a far bigger capacity stadium (either brand new one, or an increased capacity St James’ Park)?

This is my biggest gripe. We all understand that it doesn’t happen overnight but extra seats look like they will be some time around 2030 at the earliest.

Currently I’m having work done at the RVI dentistry wing, so I regularly walk down Richardson Road past Leazes Park. I really don’t care how many great crested newts live there, for the good of our city and region, we need to build a new stadium on it.

It’s the perfect location.

I’m sure we can find a home for the dog mess, drug needles and Stella cans somewhere else.

Would you say winning the Carabao Cup last season has made you more content, or now more desperate to get the next one?

Personally I’m more content, but I think for others, it’s let the Genie out the bottle and more success is now demanded.
