Ike Ugbo has struggled for form at Sheffield Wednesday since signing a permanent deal

Sheffield Wednesday are in the process of rebuilding their first team squad following their relegation to League One.

Arise Capital completed their takeover of the club at the beginning of May, and are now looking to restore the Owls to a competitive level.

The Yorkshire outfit finished bottom of the Championship last season, winning a total of two games.

But the club have already added nine new players to Henrik Pedersen’s squad, with more likely to follow.

The most notable arrival has been Barry Bannan, who returned to Hillsborough just six months after making the switch to Millwall.

Sheffield Wednesday have also signed the likes of Louie Barry, Jordi Liongola, Callum Slattery and Sil Swinkels, along with Harry Gray joining on loan from Leeds United.

It has been reported by Darren Witcoop that Sheffield Wednesday are open to the departure of Ike Ugbo before the 1 September transfer deadline.

The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Hillsborough, having made 21 appearances in the Championship last season.

The Canadian failed to score or provide a single assist, starting on six occasions, with the team struggling for results.

It’s believed that the Yorkshire outfit are now willing to listen to offers, with a number of EFL clubs keen on a loan deal.

Ugbo is also attracting interest from teams in Europe, although no concrete links have emerged with any named clubs.

It was claimed earlier this week that Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on a deal to sign Mason Burstow on loan from Hull City.

The forward could take Ugbo’s place in the squad, with Pedersen looking to bolster his options up front for next season.

Burstow had an impact on Bolton Wanderers earning promotion from League One last season, even if he wasn’t as prolific as supporters might’ve hoped.

He scored 12 times as Steven Schumacher’s side won the play-offs, which is a far better record than Ugbo has had in the last couple of seasons.

So the former Chelsea youngster will be an upgrade for Sheffield Wednesday, provided these two deals go through.

It would be a good piece of business for the Owls if they got a permanent exit for Ugbo, but a loan is the more realistic option at the moment due to his difficult form.
