Q: What have your first impressions of Celtic been?

Sebastian Tounekti: “It’s been really good. It’s a massive club, and yeah, it’s been a nice start. So yeah, there are fantastic people around the club and in the club. So yeah, it’s been a really good start for me.”

Q: How encouraging was it to start so well and play so well on your debut?

Sebastian Tounekti: “It’s always good to have a nice start. It gives you a good feeling, especially for a club like this. It’s always nice to have a nice start, and for me, I feel like it’s only the beginning. I feel like I have so much more to show, so hopefully, I will bring more out through the season.”

Q: How did the move come about in the summer? Were you aware of the interest for a long time – maybe talk us through the process?

Sebastian Tounekti: “I was aware of the interest throughout the summer. I knew that Hammarby didn’t want to sell, of course, but the club and I were really interested in the sale. So, yeah, I’m just glad that we could manage it. I’m just really happy to be a Celtic player.”

Q: It went on pretty late. Were you ever worried that it maybe wouldn’t happen in this window?

Sebastian Tounekti: “Yeah, as you said, it was really late, but yeah, it went through. So, yeah, I’m just happy that it went through.”

Q: So just tell us – why Celtic?

Sebastian Tounekti:“I think, of course, it’s a massive club. It’s a club with lots of history that has won titles. So, for a player of my age, I think it’s the best step that I could have made, and I know the playing style should fit me well. So, it was a really easy choice to go here. And of course, everything around the club, also with the fans and amazing stadiums, and to play in the Europa League. Yeah, it was a (good) fit.”

Q: In terms of the Europa League, you spoke about that there. Were you aware of Celtic’s interest there a few weeks before, when they could get into the Champions League, and was the Champions League play-off something that you watched? Obviously disappointed that Celtic didn’t make it to?

Sebastian Tounekti: “As I said, I heard about the interest through the summer, and of course, I watched the games, the Champions League games. Of course, we all wanted to go through to the Champions League, but now we are in the Europa League, and we’re going to do everything we can to have a good campaign.”

Q: And that didn’t affect your decision at all to come here?

Sebastian Tounekti: “No. As I said to you, when I heard about the interest, it was because it was some clubs that were interested in the summer. When I heard about Celtic, I told my agent and everyone around me that it was my only choice if I was going to leave Hammarby at that stage.”

Q: How was it watching those Champions League games?

Sebastian Tounekti: “Of course, you want the team to play well and to go through. We all know that in football, it’s never easy, especially when you play Champions League qualifiers, you’re going to meet teams who are good, and the team from Kazakhstan (FC Kairat) played well, I think. So, yeah, as I said, of course you wanted the team to go through, but the reality is that we’re going to play in the Europa League and we’re going to do everything we can to make a good campaign there.”

Q: You’ve had a few clubs already, and you’re still a young guy. Do you see Celtic now as a place you could stay for a good few years?

Sebastian Tounekti: “100 per cent. I want to play for Celtic for a long time. I think I can come here, and hopefully we can win many trophies together. So, for me, I see myself being here for many years.”

Q: Can you just tell us in more detail what Transfer Deadline Day was like for you? Where were you? How quickly did you get the call to come here?

Sebastian Tounekti: “It was pretty hectic. Of course, the window was closing on Monday evening. So we have to get everything through with medical and paperwork and everything, but yeah, all credit to Celtic and Hammarby, they managed it, and it went pretty fast on Monday. So yeah, it was a little bit of a stressful day, but I’m just happy to be here.”
