Gianluigi Donnarumma says it’s an indescribable emotion to know that Pep Guardiola wanted to work with him at City.
The Italian goalkeeper joined the club on deadline day before immediately reporting for international duty.
Ahead of the visit of Manchester United on Sunday, he has now arrived at the CFA to meet his team-mates and train with them for the first time.
Speaking in his maiden interview with City Studios, he made it clear how excited he is to be coached by Pep.
“I think his history speaks for itself. The fact that he wanted me here is a reason to be proud of. It's an indescribable emotion,” he said.
“Being coached by him I think is the best for a football player. I can't wait to follow him and take to the pitch with him.
“I'm sure he will help me a lot and we will do great things together, this season as well as in the following years.”
Despite only being 26, Donnarumma already has a decade of experience with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and the Italian national side.
Last season saw him claim a maiden Champions League success with PSG, beating four English sides on the way.
However, this season will be his first taste of Premier League football.
Having watched from afar up until this point, Donnarumma now can’t wait to throw himself into the thick of the action.
“It’s a new chapter in my life and my career,” he began.
“Playing in the Premier League with Manchester City is a great emotion for me and I'm ready for this challenge.
“I've always dreamt about playing in the Premier League, as it's the best league in the world.
“For a player, I think achieving in the Premier League is the maximum for his career, therefore I'm really happy to be here, I'm willing to take to the pitch for his club who has been craving so much to sign me and I hope I can pay that trust back."
The No. 25 joins a strong goalkeeping unit that already boasts James Trafford, Stefan Ortega Moreno and Marcus Bettinelli.
Trafford has started the first three Premier League games of the season after making the summer move from Burnley.
Donnarumma is under no illusions about the challenge for the starting spot but feels it will benefit the whole group to work with other supremely talented individuals.
“I’m happy because competition is good for everyone,” he said.
“I can’t wait to meet him [Trafford], and I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates.
“We have to be a strong and united group with people who care for each other and that is the key to success.
“Together we can make great success.”
