Fabrizio Romano’s big exclusive for Caught Offside today has got us all up to date on this summer’s managerial merry go round, which is almost unprecedented in its size given how many top sides are changing coach this summer.

It’s not yet clear if Chelsea will be among them – we’ve heard time and again that Mauricio Pochettino will be judged at the end of the season, and at the moment his position swings between safe and not safe with every result.

“This summer could see a domino effect in terms of managers, it’s not that easy or automatic, especially in terms of timing. As of today, none of Thomas Tuchel, Rúben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi, Hansi Flick, Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino and others are close to any move,” Romano explained.

“Chelsea’s position remains the same as we said here many times; discussions to decide Pochettino’s future will take place at the end of the season, not now. In that case, the owners will be involved and we will see what they decide. Of course, European football could be an important factor for Pochettino.

Chelsea to sit tight for now

As he’s said many times already, it seems Chelsea are in a reactive mode now. As opposed to this time a year ago, where they knew they had to appoint a new coach and were actively seeking someone to take the job, this time they’re waiting to see what happens.

That means not only judging Mauricio Pochettino on the results he gets in the final weeks of the season, but also seeing what happens with the myriad coaches mentioned above. The very first pieces of the puzzle have started to fall into place – Xavi staying at Barcelona, Arne Slot going to Liverpool. As the weeks pass, more moves will be confirmed, and Pochettino’s seat will start to get very hot if results don’t go his way.
